Indian Head Masage
Indian
head massage is a technique of manipulating soft
tissues in the shoulders and scalp. The therapist uses
a range of different massage pressures and rhythms to
stimulate the head and neck area. A typical massage
lasts about 20 minutes.

Indian
Head Massage can be particularly effective in
addressing the effects of stress. The proper name for
it is Champissage and it is a traditional
massage originating in India about 4000 years ago. It
was part of family life for week-old babies to very
aged members of the family, and still is. This is in
addition to it being practiced by barbers and masseurs
in India as part of their services.
Champissage
This
technique was devised by Narendra Mehta, an
experienced practitioner of Indian Head Massage. Mehta
combined elements of head and body massage into an oil
free combination of movements working on the upper
back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and face.
Apart from obvious contraindications such as spinal
disorders, frailty and where the person has suffered
head or neck injury, this can be enjoyed by anyone.

The
first stage of a treatment is designed to encourage
you to relax both physically and mentally. Research
continues to prove the extraordinary effect of touch,
and touch is the core of massage; research has
repeatedly shown that the act of massage improves
patients' morale and hastens their rate of recovery.
One
advantage of massage is that it is as pleasant to give
as it is to receive. It has also been proven that
stroking a household pet has a relaxing effect and
lowers the blood pressure; stroking people does the
same.
Depending
on the speed, pressure and depth of massage given it
can be soothing or stimulating; it can leave you
feeling alert or relaxed and sleepy. Relieving tension
is the first step to relaxation which is something
many people have very little time for, or do not know
how to do. Most of all, it can aid recovery.
