another slightly quicker but more complicated way)
Take
M8 East towards Edinburgh and leave Motorway at
Junction 3 (Livingston) (N.B. not junction
3A which comes next after Junction 4)

At
end of (approx 1 mile long) slip road off the M8 at
the roundabout (large stone/copper wishbone arch
roundabout has traffic lights) go straight ahead
(1st exit) into A899 (dual carriageway) signposted
Livingston
Continue
on dual carriageway for 2.7 miles to the roundabout
(Lizzie Brice) at end.
Take
first exit left off roundabout into B8046 sign
posted Mid Calder (Shell petrol station on the left)
and continue for 0.4 miles round bend and down hill
and turn right into A705 (Main St) (small
signpost for Kirk of Calder on post on left side of
the road, watch - this junction is not that
obvious)
Continue
on this road through traffic calming chicanes for
approx 0.5 miles, past Primary school on right and
down hill round bend and Kirk of Calder (EH53 0AN)
is on the left as the road straightens out.
Park
either side of the road at or opposite the cemetery (cemetery is
on right) where the road is
wider, and not in front or past the church (as the road is too
narrow for parking here). There will be sufficient
(free) parking at the church.
Take
M8 West towards Glasgow and leave Motorway at
Junction 3 (Livingston)
Take
left branch when slip road branches and join dual
carriageway A899 for approx 2.6 miles to the
roundabout (Lizzie Brice) at the end.
Take
first exit left off Lizzie Brice roundabout into
B8046 sign posted Mid Calder (Shell petrol station
on the left) and continue for 0.4 miles round bend
and down hill and turn right into A705 (Main
St) (small signpost for Kirk of Calder on post on
left side of the road, watch - this junction is not
that obvious)
Continue

Turn
right onto A705 go East for 1mile
Turn
left into A801 at traffic lights (signposted
Bathgate/Edinburgh/Glasgow)
Continue
for 550yds and take 3rd exit on roundabout
signposted M8 Edinburgh/Livingston
Continue
on motorway for 5.4 miles (past junction 3A) and
leave the Motorway at Junction 3 (Livingston)
then follow Directions
from the West
above *

Start
at Kirk of Calder, Main Street, Mid Calder (EH53
0AN).
Go
West (up hill) past Primary School on left, through
traffic calming chicanes for approx 0.5 miles
Turn
left (into B8046) at T junction continue up
hill approx 0.4 miles. passing Shell petrol station
on right to Lizzie Brice Roundabout.
Take
3rd exit on Lizzie Brice Roundabout onto (A899)
Livingston, continue on this dual carriageway for
approx 2.8 miles
At
roundabout at end of dual carriageway keep to left
lane (BP petrol station on left - roundabout has
large stone/copper wishbone arch roundabout also
has traffic lights) - take the 2nd exit signposted
M8 Glasgow
Continue
West on Motorway for approx 5.3 miles and leave
motorway at Junction 4 signposted
Whitburn/Bathgate/Falkirk A801
At
roundabout at end of slip road take 1st exit left,
signposted Whitburn
After
550 yards turn right at T junction with traffic
lights into A805
Continue
(West) for approx 1 mile and the Hilcroft Hotel
(EH47 0JU). is facing main road on the left (Main
Car Park to East side, also to front and another one
at the back)
